Palms Springs, "Se-Khi" (Cahuilla for boiling water) was first and still is home of the Cahuilla Indians the “Agua Caliente” (Spanish for Hot Waters) Tribe. They have lived here for the past 500 years. Eventually a reservation was established in 1896, which covers 32,000 acres making them the largest landowners of the city. During the 1970’s it became a popular summer home for many retirees, making winter time a virtual ghost town. It was also a favorite of many celebrities who made this area their full time residence, such as Dina Shore, Frank Sinatra, Bob Hope, Lucille Ball, Desi Arnaz, and who cannot forget Sony Bono once Mayor of Palms Springs turned Senator. |
| | Now it is still popular for its sun kiss sunshine, dry weather, and beautiful summer nights. Downtown is collective sorts of buildings ranging from the roaring 1920’s to today. Lots of history still can be found if your take the time to browse and literally look around up and down the main streets. You will never know what you may find. Lots of wonderful accommodations, many of those are historic, numerous dining establishments, shopping, museums, attractions and many yearly special events to enjoy. |
Just keep in mind this is the desert so during the high summer season the heat can be extreme and winter months can steep into freezing. So dress accordingly and be sure to bring or have lots of fluids available. | | |
