Kramer Junction purpose was set into motion way back in 1853 when it came apparent that an extension from Kramer Junction would be needed to supply Randsburg, Johannesburg and Red Mountain mining facilities. Southern Pacific (SP) Railroad constructed in 1896 a frame freight house and platform. Track was finished on December 23, 1897 and the first train rolled in from Kramer to Johannesburg December 27, 1897 to supply those areas of supplies, goods, and passage. Even though back in 1933 the track was dismantled from Johannesburg and services ceased. The track was serving other purposed now else where still, so depots were being dismantled or moved. Kramer Junction was becoming a crossing road for interstate automobile travelers.
Now Kramer Junction serves as a major cross roads for two major highways 395 & 58. Highway 395 will take you to San Bernardino south, Ridgecrest, Eastern Sierra to the north, Barstow east, Palmdale and Lancaster west. There is also a huge facility of solar generating site that has these huge panels covering a vast part of the community. You can see them from Highway 58 heading west or North on 395 once you cross the street lights.
Kramer Junction if a significant intersection because it provideds a rest stop for many truckers, carpoolers, and tourist alike. It has several fast food facilities, restaurant and gas stations with mini marts. Yet, please take your time traveling along these roads since they are only two lane highway with loads of dangerous impatient drivers!
Located among many historical buildings next to the Boron Twenty Mule Team Musuem, Kramer Junction depot was believed to be built around 1905 and was moved to Boron in 1941 by the AT&SF . Kramer junction was a significant hub for many of railroads that linked here around the 1900's.
Randsburg Railway Pictures of the Past An awesome web site!
A last ditch chance shot while passing through quickly. Didn't want to be responsible holding up traffic!
- Pros:It provides food, drink, and rest for travelers.
- Cons:It has one neat find, Solar Power!
- In a nutshell:It provides a rest stop for travelers!
