Legoland - Carlsbad
Legoland LegoLand Review

Ole Kirk Christiansen was a danish wood toy marker. He started making his toys in Billund Demark in 1932. He named his little workshop Lego, in Danish meaning 'leg godt,' meaning 'play well.' It was coincidentally learned later that LEGO in Latin means "I put together" or "I assemble." That is pretty amazing. In 1947 the company bought its first molding machine and called their product the "Automatic Binding Bricks". In 1967 the larger DUPLO® bricks for pre-school children and LEGO TECHNIC for older children debuted in 1977.

In 1968, LEGOLAND® Billund opened on a 9 acre site with all the buildings, landscapes and vehicles using standard LEGO bricks, and I think the rest is history.

My boys enjoyed the park alot. I will admit it is more catered to children from 1 - 10 years of age, after that much of the park is kind of boring to them. I will say my 15 year old liked a couple of the rollercoasters, but he made the best of it for the rest of us. My Nate just loved the place. So you might want to keep that in mind when bringing the older kids.

I will say I enjoyed the mini lego towns, that was awesome. I can appreciate all the work that went into them. Lots of details. I think the adults enjoyed this attraction the most.

Old Santa Fe Depot - Vistor Center - Carlsbad
Old Santa Fe Depot - Vistor Center Vistor Center Review

This was such a find when me and my sister were just strolling around waiting for my niece to finish getting her assignments for her next clients. I was tickled to death to see that they put the Vistor Center in the old historic train Santa Fe Depot. The depot was built in 1907 (replacing the first built in 1887) by the Arizona Eastern Railway and also served as a telegraph office, Post Office, Well Fargo Express Office, and general store. Served in later years as a shipping point for local fruit, vegetables, and flowers. Closed in 1960, it is now the home of the Visitor's Information Center and on the National Register of Historic Places.

The ladies in here were so helpful with so much information and tons of maps and tourist information. So make a point to wonder by and say hello to the very lovely souls in here.

St. Michael's by the Sea - Carlsbad
St. Michael's by the Sea

For many years Michael's By-the-Sea Episcopal Church is the only church in Carlsbad and the oldest non Roman Catholic church since 1894 . Plus, one of the four oldest buildings in Carlsbad too. It was moved from Lincoln and Oak Streets in 1959 to its present site and is still very much alive with services and weddings. It has this very beautiful garden that is maintained with love and pride. It is one of Carlsbad much loved historical sites that reflects the dedication of faith and life.

Carlsbad Mineral Water Spring - Carlsbad
Carlsbad Mineral Water Spring Carlsbad Mineral Water Spring Review

Carlsbad Mineral Water & Spa was founded in 1882 by retired sea captian John Frazier that discovered it while well digging 925 feet down. Once it was verified that he had hit a rich deposit of mineral water he named it Carlsbad Mineral Water. Soon it was discovered it was very therapeutic. The business prospered and beautiful Victorian homes were built in the surrounding area. Then in 1930 a hotel was built that accommodated many celebrities who came frequently for the mineral baths it boasted. Then in the depression hard times hit and the hotel fell into desrepair until in 1992 Ludvik Grigoras restored the old well by redrilling another well. He asked his friend another native from Czech Republic a famous sculptor Vaclav Lokvenc to sculp a 13 ft. bronze statue of Capt. John Frazier and once sent from Europe and erected at the Alt Karlsbad Historic Site 1994. It is still a very lovely spa that offers a unique ambiance of theme decor in every room while being treated by a professionally licensed and highly trained therapists.

Carlsbad State Beach - Carlsbad
Carlsbad State Beach Carlsbad State Beach Review

This is a pretty clean beach with some wonderful walk ways where you can jog, bike or just stroll along. Me and my sister chose to stroll along the beach in the sand, but on our return walk back to the car, we got back onto the walk way. This is a pretty nice beach area and has some public restrooms that were pretty darn clean.

Address: Ocean Street!

Directions: If you take I-5 get off on Carlsbad Village Drive and head West. Either turn right or left onto Ocean Street you should see access down to the beach area.
