Named after Samuel Addison Bishop who arrived into Owens Valley in 1861 through Tehachapi mountains with his wife, hired hands, and livestock. He was the first white settler in the valley. He established a San Francis Ranch along the creek that was later called Bishop Creek.
Bishop grew and prospered from the need of beef for the settlers and miners. More cattle ranches settled due to the vast fertile valley of Owen Valley.
Mount Morrison right stands at 12268 ft elevation and named after a Benton merchant Robert Morrison, a merchant that was part of a posse that was chasing convicts from the Nevada State Penitentiary. He died near hence, Convict Lake in 1871. Mono Jim Peak 10,669 ft is on the left, he was an Native American guide who tracked the convicts and was killed also.

Your really good at finding towns with lovely murals! Thanks for sharing! I love them!
hi Dee, Certainly learning much about the American West from your pages. After sightseeing it is nice to have a fine bakery to satisfy the hunger.
If time and my itinerary permit I might drive a few extra miles to have a look at Bishop around April 24.... great Info. yaqui, helps me a lot, I appreciate
A lovely town of Murals. I esp like the Kittie Lee Inn Mural.
another great village with interesting history. not sure about that CheeZe Alley though.
We blew through Bishop about 5 years ago on our way between Yosemite and Death Valley, but didn't get a chance to spend any time there. Thanks for showing us what we missed.
Beautiful! And u give everyone such great information on the history of each place. :) It's so nice of you to do!
Wow, great murals! They remind me of all the murals (totally different ones though) that I have seen in Alice Springs (Australia).
Wow, that was so nice of that man to suggest you stand on his gtruck's hood to get a good picture of that mural...wonderful and very entertaining pages as always, Dee....Norman :)
The murals must have taken a while to paint! They are lovely. I always enjoy walking tours. The best way to see a town or city. Nice pictures.
