This little city gets quite overlooked since it sits along Hwy 395. So I wanted to include it in VT. Founded in 1915 by E. H. Richardson who was the inventor of the Hotpoint Electric Iron. After he sold his patent to buy land to start a new community for veterans, instead it turned into a farming community of fruit orchards. Over time was replaced with poultry farms, until during WWII brought in Victorville Army Air Field and the local communities grew.
Around the 1950's the base was renamed as George Air Force Base, but sadly in 1980's with the closing of many military bases, George was closed. Many of local communities feared this would devastate their economy, yet it found new life at being Southern California Logistics Airport.
- In a nutshell:Beautiful mountain landscapes with desert beauty!

There really are some stunning cacti flowers. I imagine they would grow well here!
I've been to Victorville but haven't seen Adelanto that I know of. Thanks for the tour Dee!
Thanks Linda for looking. It is just a tiny city and most folks miss it in a plink of an eye. It has some travel attribures.
Another beautiful looking place that I had never heard of. Good that they found a new use for that old Air Force base.
My son lived here for awhile and enjoyed the Mavericks!
Good idea to have a cactus garden when cactus grow easily. They feel at home, in the right place !
Firecracker Pestemon, Red Yucca, Golden Barrel, French Lavender, Blue Fescue, Ground Morning Glory..awesome Cactus garden tip!! - And thank you for taking time to check out my Petzow, Caputh and Rinteln pages. So glad you like'em!!
Nice to see you're still finding the off the beaten path CA, Dee. We miss the cacti but we really miss the sun the most!
Dee, nice page! I am in Adelanto right now. Will add a lodging and restaurant tip to the collection.
Adelanto must be pleased that you did not forget them when introducing us to locations in California, Dee. Most interesting information on your intro page.
Great that you cover all the places near you for VT :)
