Once called Sunset crossing, it was nothing more where folks herded their cattle across a river. Then the San Francisco and St. Louis Rail Road laid tracks near this crossing, built a depot to refuel and switch out the crews. It was renamed Winslow, after Edward Winslow, president of the railroad.

Route 66 still runs through this wonderful city even though I-40 passes around it. As a kid, I can remember passing through this city for many years. It still holds lot of charm and many fond memories.

Fine photos of this fascinating region! Does the town of Winslow still have any railroad tracks? (It was named after the president of the railroad, after all.)

    Lovely little page, Dee!
I remember reading about the Petrified Forest and the Painted Desert when I was a kids, and what magical images they invoked! And, for once, my childish (over)imaginaiton seems to have been spot on!
