“The Mission of Saint Xavier of the Water”

First home of the Tohono O'odham tribe which means, "Desert People" who reside here in Arizona and Mexico. Jesuit priest came to this valley to convert the Native America's, who to this day retain their tribal traditions. Father Eusebius Kino visited in 1692 and laid the foundation of the first mission. Sadly the Jesuits were expelled by 1767. The Franciscans moved in by 1768 and the completion of the mission was accomplished 1797. The missions architecture is of Spanish Renaissance, Moorish, & a touch of Aztec design.

Nice page! Great photos and information throughout. When we visited a ranch near Tucson, we tried to find this church but I never did see it -- so I appreciate your page here!
