The Charoen - Nice Old Hotel and other Udon Thani, Thailand Hotel/Accommodation Reviews

The Charoen Hotel should not be confused with the new Charoensri Grand Royal Hotel. Before the latter was built, the Charoen Hotel was the nicest hotel in Udon. It has now gotten a little older but is still a nice place to stay. The rate was 660 baht plus optional breakfast buffet for another 100 baht. Breakfast was quite good and worth the extra cost.

The room was comfortable and the bathroom adequate. The staff were friendly and helpful. They were also very accommodating about a late checkout so we could freshen up after visiting Ban Chiang in the morning. The only bad thing was a loud hum during the night from the back of the hotel (or from the convention center which is right behind the hotel). It may have been from an air conditioner that needed to be fixed. It was the kind of background noise that you get used to and ultimately ignore.

Unique Qualities: The pool area is shared with the Mayfair Hotel and is quite nice.

It looks like the Charoen Hotel had an old part and a new part which they split into two hotels. You can see the two different buildings in the picture (the Mayfair is the back building). The breakfast buffet for both hotels is in the Mayfair. The lunch buffet is in the Charoen. I did not check the rate at the Mayfair but it would be higher than the Charoen.

Unique Qualities: Same nice pool area as the Charoen Hotel.

There was a very nice breakfast buffet at the Mayfair. You don't even have to go outside to get there from the Charoen, since the buildings are connected. You just need your receipt that you paid for breakfast with your room (100 baht extra).

It was Songkran (Thai New Year) and in the background of this picture, you can see the staff paying respect to the executives that were meeting at the Mayfair.
