There isn't much to say about St. Boswells - it is a little town on route B6356. If you're heading south from Edinburgh to the Border area, be sure to stop for a few minutes at Scott's View. They say that during Sir Walter Scott's funeral procession, his horses stopped here out of pure habit... it must have been a habit Scott himself trained into them because it really is quite a view of the Tweed Valley here. Very peaceful and a nice place for a picnic.
At the end of B6356 (the south end) you'll find Dryburgh Abbey. I believe that is where Scott is buried. The abbey is in ruins, but it is still lovely. I stumbled on a website not too long ago where wedding photographers in Scotland really make good use of these abbeys for wedding photo shoots- and Dryburgh appeared to be a real favorite of the brides! |
