As a child growing up in the Midwest, I was always fascinated by American Indian culture. Thus, it was only natural that Santa Fe would be on my list of places to see. I remember the crisp, clean Autumn air; the glint of silver everywhere; the bright strands and wreaths of red chilies; the moody guitarists in bars around the Plaza; and the evening air scented with pinon, sage, cedar, etc. coming from fireplaces and ovens all over town. Santa Fe is a place you can go to clear your head and think, and where you'll want to return again and again.
- Pros:Wonderfully spicy food, beautiful Native American Indian jewelry and other products, spiritual, historical, casual
- Cons:Expensive
- In a nutshell:Perfect weekend getaway

I am glad you mentioned the Guadalupe Cafe. As a Santa Fe native, I can testify that it ha some of the best food, and a great atmosphere. Blue Corn is great, try asking for the fajitas in a quesidilla, it is wonderful.
La Choza is the sister restaurant to teh Shed, and is cheaper, more casual, and where the locals go. Much more charm, and easier to get in.
Thanks, Tina, great overview of Santa Fe. I would love to go there too, reminds to all the books a was reading as a boy about indians and cowboys. Cheers, Peter
Great tips girl!! BTW- Dressmans is the store that I THINK offers local's discounts w/ a New Mexico Driver's License ;)
Tina, it sounds like you had a fun weekend in Santa Fe. Excellent restaurant and shopping tips. I learned a lot. Was the scenery so good at Cottonwoods that you never made it to the Ore House?
My son and I visited Santa Fe for three days last Spring, and like you say, It's Different - almost like another country. We loved it. Were amazed by the Loretto staircase.
Hi Tina, you are so lucky to live so close that you can go for a weekend!!
