Chinatown Lei Shops: The Best Leis are to be Found
  • Tip Rating:
  • Name of Shop: Chinatown Lei Shops

Maunakea Avenue in Chinatown is lined with lei shops, all of which are MUCH cheaper and more varied than anything you'll find in Waikiki! Two of my favorite spots are Cindy's Lei Shop and Lin's Lei Shop.

What To Buy: Buy flower leis, feather leis, corsages, and hakus (head leis).

What To Pay: Basic leis usually run from $2 to $5. Hakus are generally in the $20-$25 range.

Martin & MacArthur: THE Place for Koa Wood
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Name of Shop: Martin & MacArthur

This store is filled with high-quality koa items and accessories. I love browsing here. They have other items, too, such as books, tiles, jewelry, quilts, calendars, etc.

What To Buy: Picture frames, key chains, boxes, pens, photo albums, money clips, clocks, nightlights, etc.

What To Pay: Prices definitely vary because koa is NOT cheap!

Aloha Stadium Swap Meet: The Same Stuff for Less
  • Tip Rating:
  • Name of Shop: Aloha Stadium Swap Meet

The Aloha Stadium Swap Meet is held every Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday. Admission is a mere 50 cents. You'll find everything here that you find in Waikiki for less!! Pareos/sarongs are $5, purses are $5-$25, sundresses are $10-$20, shell and seed necklaces are $3-$10, etc. Want to take some of that Aloha feeling home with you? You can even buy fabric here (and make it into curtains, sheets, and such!). Take the #19 or #20 bus to get there, or take a shuttle from your hotel; there are discount coupons in many of the advertising brochures.

What To Pay: Prices differ, but are invariably cheaper than in Waikiki.
