San Michele is the island which serves as the cemetery for Venice. A strange caretaker with a lantern (whom I saw) looks after the graves. I remember seeing the tomb of a young girl who had obviously been a dancer; ballet slippers were atop her tombstone, as well as pictures of her dancing in various costumes. |
