A map costing a few Euros is available for purchase at the newsstand and flower shop on Avenue Pere-LaChaise, as well as at outlets near the main entrance on Boulevard de Menilmontant.

  • Who can travel to Paris without seeing its most famous monument -- the Eiffel Tower? Take the elevator to the top or, if you're more daring, walk!

Designed by Gustave Eiffel, the Eiffel Tower was created for the 1889 World's Fair. It is 300 metres tall, weighs 7000 tons and has three platforms. There are 1652 steps to the top.

  • In the city's most famous cemetery, you'll come upon one of its most famous gravesites -- that of Jim Morrison. Crowds of people gather here at all hours of the day. Nearly anyone you come upon in the cemetery will be able to lead you to the tombstone of Jim Morrison. Failing that, you can purchase a map of the cemetery at the entrance.

  • Sixteen rooms contain the works of Auguste Rodin, including "The Thinker," "The Burgers of Calais," and "The Gates of Hell." Outside is a lovely sculpture garden.

Musee Rodin opened to the public on August 14, 1919. It averages 500,000 visitors per year, and is more popular than either L'Orangerie or the Musee Picasso.

    Closed on Mondays.

Admission: 7 Euros (as of July, 2006)
    Garden only: 1 Euro
FREE for 18 years and under.

Notre Dame de Paris: Cathedrale Notre-Dame - Gargoyle

  • To be rewarded with a view of Paris, the Seine, and Notre Dame's famous gargoyles, climb the 387 steps to the top of one of the towers.

The original use of gargoyles were as downspouts to direct rainwater away from the masonry. In fact, the word "gargoyle" is derived from the sound of the gurgling water.

Construction of Notre Dame began in 1163 and was completed around 1267.

  • Touring the Catacombs is a bit eery, and probably not recommended for a single tourist in the late afternoon/early evening.

Checking the updates. I love the travelogues & use to love having a man strapping my helmet up. Uses to be a particular moment (different than feeling being dressed up by my Dad ;-). Use to be Antik batik fan.

I love toile, don't you? Wonderful charming room at the Jeanne d'arc, mon ami - glad you enjoyed the place! Mon cher, glad you made it into your room that night. That charming doorway on Ave Rapp is featured in Gigi! Yours is postcard perfect Sacre-Coeur!
