The Big Escape

Well... Bali has worked her magic yet again. I'll be going for my third year in a row this coming April. I tried to ignore her call, but it wasn't possible. This time, however, my Signore will be accompanying me to the Island of the Gods. I think he'll be in for a bit of a culture shock, as he hasn't the slightest idea what to expect. All of his friends that have been to Bali before assure him that he won't regret it & that he'll have a memorable trip. In addition, we'll be celebrating his birthday by having a belated birthday dinner (his birthday is a week before we arrive in Bali) at a seafood restaurant in Seminyak. On our first night there, I intend to let Bali seduce him by watching a magnificent sunset from a gorgeous locale, followed by dinner on the beach under the stars.

MEANWHILE BACK AT THE RANCH...

Ahhh, love was certainly blooming in my apartment with my roomies & their significant others on Valentine's Day -- flowers, balloons, cards, sweets, etc. My special someone & I didn't forget each other, either. After a lovely dinner at Ideale, our preferred North Beach restaurant, we drank champagne & exchanged cards & gifts.

Ranting and Raving in March, 2009

What did you give up for Lent? Rather than give up my usual fare -- Coca Cola, Thai food, champagne or potato chips (my particular weakness) -- I decided to give up shopping for books, CDs, DVDs, clothes and shoes. That was also meant to benefit my bank account a bit, though I admit to falling off the wagon a few times, but only for a few CDs. I couldn't pass up basically the greatest hits of the Psychedelic Furs or those of The Smiths.

What I'd like to give up for Lent is working out at the gym! As much as I need to lose that miniature pony keg that I'm accumulating, it's hard to motivate myself to go to the gym when it's raining and/or cold outside. Once I make it up the steps, however, I'm okay & seem to immediately get into gym mode. It never ceases to amaze me, though, when guys try to flirt at the gym. Haven't they noticed that my hair is disheveled, I'm sweating and I'm on the verge of having a heart attack?! Yet some people really take it easy at the gym; one woman was asleep on the stationery bicycle the other night. Others tend to "pose" on the equipment for 15-minute increments while talking on their cell phone and watching television.
The food is taking too long -- let's eat flowers!

VT Meetings

VT member loisl was back in town on March 13th. The usual gang met up at Calzones, with a few new (to us) VT members -- ohaiyo, trvlrtom & pvittoriano. After drinks, photo ops & other socializing, most of the crowd took off for The Saloon. It's always great to see loisl again, particularly when he brings me some of those luscious Swiss chocolates! Luckily, he's scheduled to be back in June.

Somewhere in the French Countryside...

One of Franck's friends took several photos of wedding guests (prior to & the day of) with red "clown" noses on. Here's our best shot!

Travel or Dating?!?!

If you are using this travel website as a "dating" service, please do NOT contact me. I am tired of receiving E-mails from men who have absolutely NO travel info or photos on their pages, no photos of themselves, and no background info of any kind. If your Friends list contains only women (none of whom have added you to their Friends list), it looks very suspect. I AM NOT ON VT TO LOOK FOR A ROMANTIC RELATIONSHIP!

There's No Place Like Rome

Just a little more on Bella Roma. In the middle of my trip, I'd climbed the Spanish Steps en route to find Casa dei Mostri. Roberto was working at a cafe across from Hotel Hassler. Not only did he convince me to have a drink at the cafe, but he filled my table with three bowls of snacks, as well as bruschetta! As I was leaving, he called me his "beautiful flower" & said that he would always give me the best. Of course, I stopped back by on my final day in Rome to have another drink there.
