I had to laugh when we walked into our lodge at the game reserve, our accommodation was easily twice the size of our little cottage at home
The views were spectacular, we could see all the way to the coast, the lodge itself had three air conditioned double bedrooms, three bathrooms, a large comfortable sitting room with a log burning fire [logs are supplied] and a huge kitchen dining area
tea and coffee making facilities are included
outside there was a large split level veranda and a plunge pool, the lodges are spaced well apart so feel very private
as we did not have a car with us we found it a bit of a hike to the dining room and bar, but its a very pleasant walk and our neighbours Rachel and Paul kindly gave us a lift to and fro
the food was excellent with plenty of choice, and there is always a pot of coffee on the go all day for you to help yourself to. The small bar area has a log burning fire for chilly evenings and is open from 10am, there is a veranda with great views
We stayted in the Kariega Lodge, there is also the slightly more up-market Ukhozi Lodge and the Homestead a restored 100 year old house with room for parties of up to 10 people and has its own game ranger and chef
you can stay at Kariega on a self catering basis but game drives and other activities are not included
Unique Qualities: in addition to the private plunge pools there is also a communal swimming pool, mountain bikes are available free of charge for guests to use
there is a small gift shop near the restaurant
