My Munich During June 2001 I spent a month in Munich, taking a German class that counted toward my minor at my university. I had class from 9am-12:30 every day, then had the rest of the time to run around and get to know the city. I have been fortunate enough to have gone back a few times since, but I will be using my daily journal that I kept while I lived there for a month as a reference. |
History of Munich A little history of the city. It was a tiny town about seven hundred years ago. Monks lived there (hence the name Munich) and they brewed a nice German beer (as the monks were known to do). Munich is placed next to Salzburg, where salt was mined. People needed to tranfer the salt from Salzburg to Germany, and they did it by way of Munich because the beer was good there. A few smart guys decided to build a bridge and charge a fee for using the bridge to get into the town. This is how Munich built itself up. The next event full time for Munich was WWII, where almost the entire city was leveled. What you see today is an exact replic of how it used to be. |
