Angkor Temple complex comprises of series of temples built between 8th anf 15th Century A.D, and located in and around Siem Reap province in the north west of Cambodia. The largest fresh water lake in South East Asia is locarted in this region, called Tonle Sap and probably was the reason for successive Khmer Kings establishing their Kingdoms here. The lake provided people with water and fishes all round the year and the land in the region was very fertile. Angkor was the ancient capital of powerful Khmer Empire and archeological treasures of South East Asia. The powerful kingdom extended from 8th century to 16thCentury. During this period, they made numerous temples, monastries, artificial lakes, palaces. Angkor wat is the biggest religious monument in the world and is dedicated to Hindu Gods Siva and Wisnu. |
