"My home away from home!" Nottingham by amsterdam_vallon

Is there a better way to discover a city than to be living there? That is what happen to me during the school year of 2004-2005 when I was teaching in a Language College just outside Nottingham.

Nottingham is the surprise package of the East Midlands, home to a vibrant fashion, music and sporting scene that competes with the best in Britain : designer Paul Smith is a leading light, the clubs and bars are some of the liveliest in the country, and Trent Bridge remains a major draw for cricket fans. It's also a mecca for shopaholics drawn from miles around.

In this page I will try to show you a little bit of what there's to see, do and maybe go a little bit off the beaten track.

Panorama of Nottingham

Nottingham was a Saxon city who once bore the less-than-charming name of "Snotingham", but modern Nottingham had its moment of glory in the 19th century when the lace industry transformed the city center. Lace-making declined during the 1890s and was virtually killed off by WWI, altough the tourist industry support some small-scale lace production.
