"Highgate - an English village in London" Highgate by Britannia2

A large London village

England at its very best - history, the home to famous people, beautiful buildings and a very English village feel despite sitting only four miles from St Paul's Cathedral .
It is high above the city - very hilly in parts once you get there - I do cover this in transportation but do not go on the Underground to Highgate as it is a long uphill walk to the village. Archway is a better option but still a long steep uphill walk - take a bus.

    Hi Colin
Another lovely page about one of London's overlooked gems (why do tourists so seldom explore the villages of Norf London?) - and Highgate Cemetery is one of my favourite places in London.
On reflection, I think that I would prefer to live in Highgate Village than in Hampstead, but since both are laughably beyond my pocket, it's a moot point!
    Regards
    Cathy

A really good page, I missed the whittington stone but am fairly close to Highgate so must revist and after walking a few bus stops before the bus came I know what you mean by steep hills
