The Summer Wine town

I wonder if anyone ever went to Holmfirth before the BBC TV comedy Last of the Summer Wine made the town famous when the BBC chose Holmfirth as the shows setting?
The show , which ran from 1972 to 2009 was the worlds longest running comedy TV show and has plenty of repeat showings on the Yesterday channel in England , and therefore the link should be good for another few years.
However in its own right the town should survive without the link - it is full of intersting shops and eating places and has a good theatre.
Worth a days visit if you are touring the area.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Interesting old town built on hills
  • Cons:Spoiled by heavy traffic but a ring road would be impossible
  • In a nutshell:More than a TV link town
