Semi Victorian town centre

This is a town that had so much potential to be a perfect Victorian town - a largie Saltaire or Haworth - there are so many gaps filled with awful 1960s buildings where presumably where once older buildings stood. Coupled with a town badly affected by the recession as I write this in 2012 and a number of closed shops first impressions are not good.
However as with anywhere in England there is no area not worth investigating and look deeper than the first impression a visitor may have and we found much of interest here and in the area.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:A wonderful location in Pennine country
  • Cons:A 1960s planners blitz ruined the town and it never recovered
  • In a nutshell:Worth a short visit - central for the whole of the north of England

    Hi Colin
Came back to see the rest ....
The Rugby League museum sounds interesting - even if I'm a Union girl myself ...
