"Traditinal Canarian town" La Orotava by Britannia2

An enchanting town

We took a taxi out of Puerto De La Cruz , through banana plantations and the lush Orotava valley to this wonderful small Spanish town. It is only a short 5km journey but in this short distance you are taken from a holiday town to a bustling traditional Canarain town full of colourful buildings, old squares, cobbled streets and views over the sea in one direction and to Mount Teide in another. Because of its proximity to the mountain it streets can be quite steep so bear this in mind if you have walking issues.
Very few people speak English but this was not a problem and the shopping here was much better than PDLC. There is so much to see and do here and we just scratched the surface.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Authentic Canarian town
  • Cons:Steep streets make it unsuitble for some
  • In a nutshell:One of the most picturesque towns I have visited.
