Lamu is an amazing place! It is the most unique place I have ever visited. From the moment you step off the boat you feel as though you have gone back in time. This mostly muslim island has very distinct architecture and many ornate carved doorways. There are no cars and no real roads, the streets are just wide enough for people riding donkeys to pass each other. Other means of transport is by the old dhow boats. A day or overnight trip on one of these is fantastic. It is such a small town and the people are so friendly it seems as though everyone knows everyone....including you if you stay longer than a few days. Lamu has a relaxed and refreshing lifestyle...as the locals will tell you its paradise. Its the kind of place that once you get a feel for the life you can feel as though you want to stay forever.
