Paris est fantastique et une très belle ville

by aussiedoug - last update: Dec 16, 2008

City I left part of my heart in

Jeanne de Arc: one my heroines
Can't believe that it's now just over 4 years since I was in this city that I left part of my heart in.

Still that seductive enchantress keeps trying to entice me back. I want to fulfil her wishes by returning, but also seeing a bit more of the French countryside. I have said an quite a few occasions to different people that despite falling in love with Paris, if I lived there I would need to have a weekend in the countryside about once every 4-6 weeks.

I will be back in Europe April 8 2009 till May 2 2009 so please you helpful VTers tell me..... Should I visit her for a couple of nights again?

From the future now back to the past. I was there for ten days as a member of the Art Gallery Society of New South Wales (Sydney, Australia) with sixteen others doing a tour entitled "The Artist's Paris". We were lucky enough to be lead by the Curator of Special Exhibitions from the AG of NSW, Terence Malloon, a truly terrific bloke who has not only an encyclopaedic knowledge of art, different genres, eras, mediums, artists etc, but was also able to add a bit of humour every now and then to make it even more enjoyable.

I fell under this magical city's spell and so, on our second last day there, rang the travel agent in Sydney and was able to extend my stay a further three days to get back to places such as Musee D'Orsay and also just wander and discover other places such as the Ile St Louis. I felt closest to Paris during this time and was lucky to discover a few places. One lunch I had in Passage Jouffroy (spelling?) where I was indeed the only English speaker was delightful with both the food and the atmosphere.

A big thank you also to VTer Fosettes who was then lucky enough to live in Paris and extended excellent hospitality to myself and another of our group. She met us and took us to this great little cafe/wine bar where we enjoyed lunch together.

Overall I found the Parisiens to be delightful - more reserved by nature than us Aussies, but polite, friendly and helpful even when I was butchering their beautiful language.

Ah Paris, A Bientot
