a major agricultural service centre with a population of 1,000+ Spiritwood is located 85 miles west of the city of Prince Albert, in the beautiful forested and rolling Parklands of northwestern Saskatchewan. Nestled within a huge ancient glacial bowl of the Laurentian Plateau, this friendly town is surrounded by hills along the shores of Lake Witchekan, one of the 1,000's of lakes within the province. Wild game and waterfowl are in abundance and the community lies directly below one of the major migratory bird flyways of North America. Population is mixed Euro-Canadian with a few families of Asian descent and/or the Phillipines. The Witchekan Lake First Nations and other First Nations Reserves of Pelican Lake, Ahtahkakoop and Big River are nearby and the First Nations Agency Chiefs Tribal Council maintains a modern headquarters office building here as does the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Detachment serving the greater area. Fully serviced, Spiritwood is a great family-oriented town, with an 18 hole golf course, new Inn On The 10th B&B, major new health complex, civic centre and arena with artificial ice plant, soon-to-be-opened bowling/curling complex, schools, community college and churches, Farmers' Market. Public library with CAP community access program computers is centrally located in the most elegant building on Main Street. A new museum project is underway. Regional news coverage is provided weekly by the Spiritwood Herald community newspaper. For campers this is truly a gateway to the north and for hunting, fishing and birdwatchers, Spiritwood is paradise found. Enjoy our 3rd Annual Spirit of the North Country Fair and Parade July 26-27th. This is my hometown and my little corner, a hermitage, is known fondly as Windflower Gore. Seasons Greetings from Spiritwood! |

| | aerial view north over Lake Witchekan Lake Witchekan is designated as a migratory waterfowl sanctuary for coots, cormorants, cranes, ducks, geese, grebes, herons, loons, pelicans, swans and other birds. Our community is home to various birds of prey, raptors, song and garden birds...Birdwatchers, bring your cameras and notebooks!...take a quiet stroll to the old wooden bridge at the creek along the westend of town and watch busy beavers at work around their lodge nearby to our Windflower Gore Estate. The timber wolf is featured as a local symbol of our community status as "gateway to the north". At the intersection of Highway #3 and Main Street there stands a statue of a timber wolf atop a white boulder which is known to First Nations Elders as a "white buffalo", a sacred spiritual symbol. A rock garden surrounds the perimeter at the base of the White Buffalo boulder and on each rock is affixed a small bronze plaque to identify an individual or family as sponsor of this unique monument. |
