Deus e Brasileiro!

by realde14 - last update: Jul 3, 2007

Leblon in Rio de Janeiro
Over the last two years, I have been in Brazil over a dozen times and probably spent more than 6 months total in this country, which has grown very close to my heart.

For me Brasil is a country of contrasts:

It is a country with gigantic natural wonders and reserves, rain forests and vast untouched areas like the Amazon or the Pantanal but also with megacities that belong among the most urbanized and populated in the world like Sao Paulo or Rio.

It is a country with a sophisticated and modern cities like Sao Paulo, which has the highest rate of usage of private helicopters in the world, but also a country with the most world's most disparate income distribution where large parts of the population have to live in poverty.
A part from the contrasts between the rural and urban areas, between first world development and third world poverty, there are also huge regional cultural differences with different accents, music, ethnic make-up etc. For example, the South of Brazil because of European influence seems to be a completely different country than say Brazilian's Northeast.

But despite all these contrasts there is something that unites Brazil: It is the Brazilians whose friendliness is second to none in the world, always smiling, always positive, and always welcoming. Brazil, a mix and a contrast even with its people, whether they are of Indian, Black, Portuguese, Italian, German, Japanese, Spanish, Lebanese etc etc descent. Brasil um pais de todos.
