Crossing to/from Spain

You have different options to cross the 3rd most busiest strait in the world in order to get from Spain to Tanger, Morocco. Algeciras has a modern port terminal and provides more frequent and convenient crossings than Gibraltar, but it is not as cute as than Tarifa, the third option. However, Tarifa, where the crossing ois the fastest with 35 minutes is only for EU Nationals. This will change Sep 1, 2003, when other nationalities will be allowed to cross from Tarifa as well.

Night train to Marrakesch

The night train to Marrakesch leaves at 11:00 pm and arrives at around 8am in Marrakesch. It is more confortable that I thought, but I would recommend First Class Tickets with Couchettes.

The train station in Tangier is a bit outside, about a 15 dirham cab ride from the center.

Visiting the Rif villages

To visit the Rif villages such as Chaouen or Tetouan, you most likely will depart from Tangier either by bus or grand taxis. Un grand taxi is usually an older Mercedes, fitting six passengers. If you want to be a bit more confortable, you can "buy" more than one seat or even the whole taxi.

Ferries

Leaving/Departing from Tangier can be a bit annoying with all the hustlers there to misinform you. Arriving on the ferry from Spain, make sure that your passport has been stamped on the ferry and the arrival card filled out.
When leaving Tangier on the ferry, you will be asked by several semi-official looking people for your passport and ticket. Don't give them anything and walk straight to the terminal wher you will find the passport control on the second floor. There's usually a line; don't think giving your passport to on eof the guys standing around will speed up the process.
