Arriving (and departing) by ferry in Tanger can be quite a hassle with all the false guides and hustlers ready to misinform you and make a couple of dirhams.
Tangier is more of an atmosphere than a tourist destination, dating from the time when is was an international zone, frequented by the slightly decadent rich and the artistic in a period of political uncertainty. This after all was the city after which they modeled the movie Casablanca.
If you would like to know more about Tanger's past as a international zone, Paul Bowles' novel Let It Come Down serves as an excellent introduction.
- Pros:Its cosmopolitan past lingering still in the air
- Cons:the hassle
- In a nutshell:unless you are on a beat generation pilgrimage and have plenty of time in Morocco, Tanger is not really worth the hassle

Hi nice little pg about Tangier but i think its a place that is worth visiting-just need to learn how to deal with it beforehand!help understandg&then ignoring the crappy crapartists there to see the stuff that is interestg&still actually rather beautifl!
Very good page about Tangier. It's the only place i visited in Morocco and it left me wanting to see more of the country. I didn't find the hassles too annoying, just ignoring the touts worked well.
Nice page about Tangier. Great tips, the transportation info is just what i was looking for. Thanks!! :-)
The beach looks alright to me. Didn't know about it, spent the time in the medina.
