Fortaleza, the capital of the Brazilian Northeastern state of Ceara, is a sunny and fast-growing city with long stretches of beautiful beaches and not so beautiful construction and skycrapers.

It seems like the idea is to turn Fortaleza into Brazilian's Cancun with resorts being built everywhere to attract (mainly) European tourists.

Tourists are drawn to the long sandy beaches, the almost eternal sunshine, the friendliness of the people as well as the excellent nightlife.

Especially if you like dance and listen to Forro, then you must come to Fortaleza. This is the Forro capital of Brazil (and the world of course), and definitely one of the best places to party. Nightlife here is abundant and world-famous

There are some excellent beaches outside of Fortaleza, easily reached in daily or weekend excursions. One of them is the 'hippie' beach at Canoa Quebrada, which is already quite commercialized but still a beautiful place to visit.
