Avenida Paulista

sao Paulo - the mega city

I am in Sao Paulo once a month for business, and to be honest, despite being a mega city, I kind of like the place (except for the traffic, which is absolutely horrible). Sao Paolo is the second biggest city in the world and its urban sprawl makes New York look like a very manageable city. Sao Paolo can be very confusing since there isn't really a center or a point of reference, just a huge mass of skycrapers, flyovers, and cars. It took me a while to find my way around trough the different areas like Itaim, Pinheiros, Jardins or Moema.
Center

Attractions

Apart from museums, the main tourist attractions are in the centro, where there are some older colonial buildings left, that mix in with fin de siecle structures and more modern skycrapers.

Overall, Sao Paulo is not the first place I would recommend visiting in Brazil. It is definitely more of a place to do business than a tourist destination. Nightlife is excellent and the gastronomical choices are second to none in South America, if not in the world. Whether it is typical Brazilian Feijoada, Churrasco, Japanese, Italian or Arabic culinary delights you are looking for, Sao Paulo has an incredible amount of choices.
Skycrapers

Paulistas

Despite Sao Paulo's hectic citylife, the Paulistas are great people. They are Brazilians after all, and have you ever met a Brazilian that is not nice?

Sao Paulo is a very cosmopolitan city where immigrants from all over the world have left their marks. You will find Paulistas of Italian, Portuguese, German, Lebanese, Japanese origin to name only a few.
