The Fountain was built in 1444 by Onofrio de la Cava. It's a drinking fountain with 16 sides and takes it's water from a spring 20 kilometers away. A major accomplichment and the constuction a master piece of it's time.

Stradun - Dubrovnik
Stradun The Stradun Review

The main street in the Old Town is called Stradun although it's real name is Placa. It was originally built in the 14th century but was rebuilt after the great earthquake in 1667 when 3/4 of all houses was destroyed. All of the new houses have almost identical facades and are at the same height.

The Minceta Tower (Kula Minceta) is the largest tower on the Dubrovnik fortress facing inland. Its construction began in 1463.

The Minceta Tower is the most beautiful and remarkable fort of Dubrovnik and often regarded as the symbol of the city. It was built in two periods. staring in 1319 and the second stage completed in 1461. The fort was armed with nine guns including a large 64 pound cannon on the top platform.

Lovrijenac Fortress

The Lovrijenac Fortress, sometimes called the "Gibraltar of Dubrovnik", rises up from a steep cliff 37 meters high outside the western city walls. It defended the approach to the western part of Dubrovnik from attacks from the land and the sea.

There's an inscription above the entrance to Fort Lovrijenac: "Non Bene Pro Toto Libertas Venditur Auro" - "Freedom cannot be sold for all the money in the world".

Directions: Outside the western City Gate of the Old Town
