Sport fishing in Norrköping Center

In Norrköping there is great fishing, a lot of people take daytrips to Norrköping to fish for salmon or trout. You can also fish for pike, bass and other fish I don't know the english name for.

A permit is 50 crowns a day and youths under 18 fish for free. Every year 10.000 new trouts and salmons are inserted into the river to ensure a rich and living fish population.

Frisbee Golf

In Folkparken you can play frisbee golf at a 18 hole course , in the KFUM stand you can hire real frisbee golf frisbees for 15 crowns.

It's a very common afternoon activity during the summer among younger people.

Equipment: A frisbee, a smaller frisbee designed for frisbee golf is preferable but any frisbee will do.

Rock and Ice Climbing

Ågelsjön is located in one of Sweden's most beautiful areas, Kolmården. There are over 200 routes with an average difficuly of grade 6. During the winter there are several places for Ice climbing.

Equipment: Of course climbing gear, there are nice places to put up tents and don't forget something to use when swimming.

Directions: 10 kilometers outside Norrköping in the Katrineholm direction, turn at the the road sign to the ski slope Yxbacken.

Grabbhalvan

Grabbhalvan, a 5 kilometer running competition (or trotting in most cases) for "real" men through the streets of Norrköping. It's an annual competition in may and has become an annual festival with many companies participating.

Everyone who finishes receives a survival kit with an inscribed beer glass and other essentials. My favourites are the ones running the entire race with a beer can in their hand =)

A special price is the "case-price", there's an empty case of beer after 3 kilometers, the person who brings it over the finish line get a special price.

Equipment: A real "grabbhalva" should wear a net shirt and 3 days stubble and preferable a beer belly.

Golf

Norrköping has several golf courses;

Bråviken Golfbana, http://www.bragk.se - An excellent 27 hole course.

Klinga Golfbana, http://www.ngk.nu - A good 18 hole course.

Ingelsta Golfbana - 9 hole course, Driving Range.

There's also an Aqua Golf on Himmelstalunds fältet and a Pay and Play course further outside Norrköping

Swimming and Training

At Norrkýping Swimming Center you can go to swim, train in the gym, box-out, spinning and aerobics. The Centre has a 25 meter indoor pool, a 50 meter outdoor pool, beach volley fields and training facilities, a water slide, relaxation department with steam saunas and regular saunas.

Not to miss is the relaxation swim on monday nights when they dim the lights, light candels and you swim to gentle relaxation music.

Yxbacken

The small local ski slope and the home slope of World champion Pernilla Wiberg. There are 2 ski lifts and 2 slopes with a length of 450 and 700 meters (fall height 110 meters) and a slope for kids and beginners. There's also a crosscountry track with artificial snow. A lift pass is 120 crowns for a single day.

There's a lot of snowboarders skiing in yxbacken and there are plans to build a quarterpipe and a snowboard fun park and a new slope.

Equipment: If you don't have skiis with you or want to rent a snowboard there's an ski shop where you can rent equipment next to the ticket office.

Directions: Drive towards Katrineholm and turn right at the Yxbacken road sign, tyhe slope will be fully visible from the road.

Himmelstalunds Swimmingpool

Himmelstalundsbadet is an outdoor area with a free entrance with a big swimming pool, a childrens swimming pool, beach volley ball field, a cafeteria and showers and locker rooms.

It's open from the beginning of june until the end of august. A warning though, since it's free on a hot day it's very crowded.

Directions: At the Himmelstalunds field just a couple of hundred meters from the camping.
