Town of Extreme Sports | Paragliding above Queenstown |
Queenstown definitely is a town of extreme sport. You can do almost any kind of extreme sport that is available to man. From skydiving to bungee jumping, Queenstown has it all. Hidden in the midst of South Island Mountain ranges is the thrill-seeker's dream town. A five hours drive from Christchurch, Queenstown offers thrill seekers the adrenaline rush they are looking for at exorbitant rates - subjected to foreign exchange rates. I tried tandem paragliding from the top of the SKYLINE and I must say the view of Queenstown from way up there is simply breath taking. Armed with a camera, your tandem instructor will gladly take a few photos of you in mid-air while you spiral down towards Queenstown. For the seeker who does not want to experience free fall, try paragliding. Maybe a bit on the high side of $200NZD - (SKYLINE costs $17NZD to go to the top), do not give it a miss if you are able to afford it. While you are at the SKYLINE, be sure to try out the Luge. Luge is actually a bobsled with wheels sledding on concrete roads going downhill. $6NZD per ride and you are even given a choice to pick either the scenic or advanced route. |
| Reflection of The Remarkables |
| | Beautiful Town by The Lake Amidst the hustle and bustle of the adrenaline pumping sports, Queenstown do also exhibit its picturesque beauty. Just like a chameleon that is able to blend with its surroundings, Queenstown is able to change its beauty to suit the different times of the day. In the morning, you will get the low hanging clouds passing through Queenstown making it mysterious and enigmatic. Under the blistering sun, Queenstown is painted as a vibrant city with its continuous palisade of Para gliders floating down into the town. Come evening, Queenstown is transformed into a romantic city with the golden remarkables reflecting and radiating its beauty upon Lake Wakatipu. For the avid photographer, capturing these elusive moments may be a daunting task but the rewards are definitely more than worthwhile. |
Scenic Queenstown Queenstown is nested in mountain ranges carved out by the last ice age. There is a raw beauty that exist in Queenstown and its surroundings that is untouched and untainted by modern changing world. Yet even as the modern tourists invades Queenstown in torrents, Queenstown is still able to advance with the growth and also preserve the original beauty it was blessed with. Take a stroll down one of the streets of Queenstown and one can really feel the easy going lifestyle of the local in this town that promises adrenaline rushes. | | | Queenstown against The Remarkables in the Evening |

DWARF-2 Wed Feb 9, 2005 20:20 UTC Although accustomed to Swiss scenery, I find New Zealand really impressive. Good pictures and well-written accounts - thanks, though I see you haven't logged on for a while. | knerten Sun Jul 25, 2004 09:04 UTC Even for a Norwegian, practically living with such views daily, I am stunned at the beauty of Milford Sound. I hope to go there while I'm still in NZ. |
