I will try to make time to write something about some of the places I have visited. Meanwhile you can read my different nonsense lists below. I hope you get inspired to visit some new places.
Very briefly about myself...I am born and raised in Stockholm, the beautiful capital of Sweden. By he way, Stockholm is definitely a place you all must visit during your lifetime. I will post some pictures that will convince you all.
As all of you, I consider traveling to be an integral part of my life. Even after six years at different universities I can actually say that traveling is one of best school you can ever attend. You learn about social, economical and political issues, all while having a great time. Traveling does not only increase your overall knowledge and awareness, but also reduces barriers and fears between different people. Hence, take a moment and reflect over what lower airfare could do for the situation in the world ;-).
Well, the base line is that traveling is extremely fun and should be performed as often as possible.
My next trip takes place in October when I will go back to South America. After working as a management consultant for the last six years I will take a break for three months and go to one of my favorite cities, Buenos Aires. My primary goal is to learn Spanish and to get to know the city a little bit better. I will also travel around in Argentina and make trips to Brazil and Uruguay. I will keep you updated of my stay in South America.
Please contact me if you have any questions about the places I have been to or if you are planning to visit Sweden.
Keep on smiling and enjoy life!! |
| | My favorite countries (sights, atmosphere, climate, food and people) 1. Italy 2. Thailand 3. India 4. France 5. Canada
My favorite big cities (comments unnecessary) 1. New York 2. Barcelona 3. Rome 4. Paris 5. Buenos Aires |
| Several thousands lives in the Jaisalmer fort |
| | Cities with some extra flavor: * Jaisalmer (India) - like a true fairytale inside the big fort * Sao Paulo - Batman's Gotham City architecture goes Latin America * Venice - pure beauty on water * Bangkok - kind of ugly, but with beautiful temples and an intensive pulse * St. Petersburg - believe me, communist guards adds to the experience (went there before the collapse of Communism) * Beijing - a mix of the old and new China * Prague - a really beautiful and old city * Varanasi (India) - feel the medieval atmosphere * Quebec City - a touch of France in North America, extra beautiful during a really heavy snow fall * Firenze - warning, you can get a cultural overload * Shanghai - booming, a view from the Jinmao Tower and you feel like you are playing Sim City * Lisboa - an African touch in Europe |
| Me and a small part of the Great Wall |
| | Ten great "man made" sights: 1. Great Wall (China) 2. Taj Mahal (India) 3. Jaisalmer Fort (India) 4. Coliseum (Italy) 5. 7000 terracotta warriors (China) 6. Manhattan skyline (USA) 7. Eiffel Tower (France) 8. The Forbidden City (China) 9. St Peters Cathedral (Italy) 10. Petronas Towers (Malaysia) |
| Sunrise in the Sahara desert |
| | Ten great natural sceneries: 1. Sahara Desert (Tunisia) 2. Stockholm Archipelago (Sweden) 3. Tuscany (Italy) 4. Lofoten (Norway) 5. Niagara Falls (Canada/USA) 6. Lappland (Sweden) 7. Thar Desert (India) 8. Alpes (Europe) 9. Krabi (Thailand) 10. Algarve (Portugal) |
| The meat in Buenos Aires is hard to match |
| | In my opinion you can find the best food in: 1. Italy - there is pasta and then there is PASTA the Italian way...and much more 2. Thailand - never been disappointed 3. Spain - "tapas", need I say more 4. India - best vegetarian food 5. France - a true culinary experience
Museums actually worth visiting: 1. Shanghai Museum, Shanghai - a modern museum that are showing some really old and interesting artifacts that will give you a sense of how old and impressive China really is 2. D'Orsay, Paris - skip the Louvre (its too big and time consuming) and go to this smaller and really beautiful museum located in an old train station 3. Parc Guell, Barcelona - actually a park on the hillside, but shows of some fascinating works made by the architect/artist Antoni Gaudi and you will get the spectacular view of Barcelona for free 4. Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art, New York - you can not go to New York and not go there, but focus on some areas otherwise you will be there forever 5. The British Museum, London - the mummies themselves makes it worth a visit |
| The beautiful beach Tham Phra Nang |
| | Some favorite beaches: * Hat Tham Phra Nang (Krabi, Thailand) * Hat Rin Nok (Ko Pha-Ngan, Thailand) * Anjuna (Goa, India) * Hat Laem Tong (Ko Phi Phi, Thailand) * Algarve (Laos, Portugal) * Plenty of beaches on the Italian and French Riviera (do not remember the names)
The best party is located in: 1. New York - has everything you ever dreamed of 2. Barcelona - the real party starts well after midnight 3. London - party capital of Europe 4. Stockholm - cool, trendy and sophisticated 5. Amsterdam or Chicago - still looking for a city truly worthy of the fifth place |
| The holy bath in Ganges at Varanasi |
| | My surreal experiences: * Thousands of holy rats at the Harni Mata Temple (Deshnok, India) - you have to take of your shoes when you enter the temple?my friend was petrified * Dead man 1 - Mausoleum for Mao Zedong, (Beijing, China) - look like a wax doll * Dead man 2 - Mausoleum for Lenin, (Moscow, Russia) - still looks like wax * Dead man 3 - Ceremonial burning of dead people at Ganges (Varanasi, India) - the smoke filled my eyes with tears...a cultural clash * Dead man 4 - Arrived one minute after a drive by shooting (Montreal, Canada) - I just hope he survived
Some things I have done that adds to the experience: * Saw FC Barcelona win at Camp Nou, the largest football stadium in Europe * Enjoyed world class ballet at the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow * Watched a three hour long Bollywood movie in the Hindi language in Bombay * Ate a completely tasteless dinner in the home of a well educated family in Louyang (China) whose only dream were a new life in Canada * Watched several NHL and NBA games in USA |
