As with most Central and Eastern European cities I have visited, you can easily see all the highlights within 2-3 full days, depending on your tastes. IMHO, there are 2 "must-sees" in Vienna for all tastes: Schonbrunn Palace and the National History Museum (KHM), with its large collection of Pieter Bruegel the Elder paintings. The Hofburg Palace is not necessary after Schonbrunn (unless you specifically want to see the silver collection), as it is basically the same as Schonbrunn. The only exception would be to see the Treasury. There is, of course, much more to see in the city but what to see varies with each individual. Some may prefer to take in more of the excellent museums, others wouldn't dream of leaving Vienna without a cruise on the Danube or eating warm apple strudel with vanilla sauce. Enjoy!
