I've been to Egypt 3 times now. Each time I love it more and more.
My first trip was in July 1998 with Contiki. It was only for a week and you could say we were very sheltered. We had air conditioned buses and police escorts to and from the airport. It was only 6 months after the massacre of tourists at Hapshetsut's temple in Karnak, so we could understand the hightened security at time. We did the usual tourist route, starting in Cairo (Museum, Pyramids) then took an over night train south to Aswan. My fondest memories of the Nile were here. I couldn't get over how peaceful it was and how friendly the locals where. We also visited the temples at Karnak, Luxor and the Valley of the Kings. Flew to Abu Simbel and beat the crowds first thing in the morning. Then went on to Hurghada for my very first snorkle in the Red Sea.
I've been again twice since then. August last year for a weeks girlie holiday in Sharm el Sheik. I finally got to Dahab this time. Fantastic! Then again in April this year to learn to dive. Beautiful!
I'd love to go back and this time, with my man and maybe visit Alexandria and the Western Oasis (Any tips, please feel free to email!) and once again visit the amazing temples in the south.
