In the beginning... I left New Zealand in 1998 to do my BIG OE (Overseas Experience) and I'm still travelling 5 years later! Who would have thought!
I grew up in a small central North Island town called Tokoroa (18,000 people), on a dairy farm with Mum, Dad and my 2 sisters. After leaving home to go study and find a job I slowly moved to bigger and bigger cities... Rotorua, Hamilton, Auckland and eventually London, where I live now and which is also my base for all my travels.
My first trip was a Contiki (bus) tour of Europe in the summer 1998 for 42 days. We travelled to France, Monaco, Spain, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Egypt, Bulgaria, Hungary, Romainia, Austria, Germany, Liechenstein, Switzerland and the Netherlands. For a first time traveller it was a trip of a lifetime.
Since that trip I returned to most of western Europe in the winter of 1999 via Eurail. Drove a car around Spain for 3 weeks in the summer of 2000. Did an 8 day tour of Morrocco with Imaginative Traveller in October 2000 (still one of my favourites)where I met my VT friend Dare2Dream. Island hopped the Cyclade group of islands in Greece for a month in the summer of 2001. Lived in Israel for 6 months from October 2001 (5 months on a Moshav picking peppers)and visited Syria and Jordan for 10 days. Returned to Egypt to learn to dive in April 2003. And in between big trips have continued to go on small weekend breaks all around western Europe, Scandinavia and the UK.
Last year my partner and I went camping in the south of France, had a week break in Tunisia. In December I went to Northern India for 3 and a half weeks.
This year, still deciding... Croatia, Nepal, Tibet, China.
