No - Nienburg in the middle of Bremen & Hannover Thats why we are living here! Our roots are in Bremen (60 km to the north) and my work is in Hannover (60 km to the south). 120 km to drive everyday is just too much, so we looked for a place in the middle. The decision was not too hard - there only is one real town in the middle. It was a map choice, but could not have been better. Never in my life before I have been to Nienburg, but now I am happy I am living here. It is a pretty, quiet, typical northern German town with cobblestone streets and carcass houses in the old town. And it is located at a real river (this is important to me, I just need some water around) - the river Weser (so actually one can go by boat through the scenic landscape further downriver to Bremen).
For around 33.000 inhabitants we have a cinema (an independent one with a real personal touch - great), some bars, restaurants and actually all you need. We also have some museums here, but that's really nothing spectacular. We live right in the old part of downtown with cobblestone streets and carcass houses.
The nature around is dominated by big greens plains, small and big rivers, little hills, mountains and forests, quite idyllic and great for walking, inline-skating or biking. Still, it's small and we will not be living here forever, but for the moment this is just the perfect place. Have fun looking around a bit! |
