A different piece of Croatia | Port of Hvar and Pakleni Islands |
I can vaunt to have been in Croatia several times and I can assure that Hvar is different from the other Islands or places of Dalmatian coast. It is different because it is the only town in Croatia that has built its luck and fame on its nightlife. For these reasons I have compared it to Ibiza, even if I have exagerated of course!! But you can be sure that in Hvar (Hvar town I mean, not the whole Island) you will find people in the streets, discos and pubs until dawn! Also in Dubrovnik, Spalato or Makarska there is a certain Nightlife, but the approach is different! Here in Hvar there is only one rule: "Carpe Diem"'s rule. Carpe Diem is the most popular disco of Hvar and you are obliged to listen to its music from 6 o'clock in the afternoon (when Happy Hour begin) until 5 o' clock in the morning. Hvar is associated with snob people in spite of the other places of the Island or of the other places in Dalmatia. |
| | The other face of Hvar However Hvar has also another face! The town is very typical and if you want to spend a different night you can walk in the little, narrow and crowded (!!) streets of the historical centre and eat in one of the various "konoba" (typical restaurant) of the town. During all the day and during the night too, along the promenade there are two long rows of stalls that sell Lavander (parfume, little pouches to put in the cupboards, liquors etc...), the typical product of the Island. Lavander's parfum is everywhere! |
The most interesting things in Hvar Hvar has an interesting history and you can find out it visiting the old town. The most interesting things are: - Trg Sv,Stjepana, that is the largest square of Dalmatia, and its cathedral of 16th century; - The old theatre (1612), that was the first one in Europe to be opened to the common people and not only to the aristocracy; - The arsenal, just under the theatre; - The Spanish Fortress, on a little hill behind the port from which you have the most beautiful view of the town, sea and Hvar's port.
But the most beautiful thing of Hvar has been gave it by the nature: it's the sea and the landscape! Just in front of Hvar there is a group of small islands called Pakleni, every day Taxi boats leave from the little port of Hvar to reach their rocky coasts. However the best beaches are on Hvar Island, in the Southern coast...but this is another story...please check the tips!! | | |
