(Washed) BULLS AND (Mozart) BALLS

by Anjutka - last update: Jul 6, 2007

Hohensalzburg Fortress
Salzburg seems to be a must for everybody visiting Austria and so I visited it, too. exactly twice on a stop on the drive from my friend Lothar's home in Telfs to Vienna and back. we were very lucky on the way to Vienna. the weather was sunny and just right for a sightseeing and a pleasant late afternoon snack under the chestnut trees in the wonderful Augustiner Bräustübl Beer Garden. On the way back from Vienna we had nice weather all the way, a sunset at the Mondsee lake included, but when we arrived in Salzburg the city remembered us why it is so famous for its rain, here called "Schnürlregen". This is the big disadvantage of Salzburg. But at least I had a very good idea of what it looks like in the rare sunny weather.

Now it happens quite frequently that I pass Salzburg on the way and if the weather is nice I use to stop here to enjoy the rare sunny time which makes the city really look nice - and a visit of the Augustinerbräu Beer Garden indispensable.

Salzburg is of course worth a visit, it looks nice but it seems to me a bit over-rated. and a visit of Salzburg is not complete without the great surroundings, the lakes and mountains of the Salzkammergut.

Pros:"Attractive views, wonderful surroundings, easy to reach"
Cons:"Slightly overrated, frequent bad weather"
In A Nutshell:"Should not be missed when visiting Austria"

Nice Salzburg peek, Anna. I have always enjoyed visiting this part of Austria. And yes, I've bought and consumed wayyyy more Mozart balls than I should have. :)
