It was a surprise for me to find Schoenbrunn in the VT places database. Surprising because it is in the middle of Vienna. So I build a page on it because we have been a full day in Schoenbrunn (the only one significant activity in Vienna outside of Schoenbrunn on this day was a visit to Tichy's Icecream palace to enjoy Europe's best icecream.)
Schoenbrunn was built to compete with Versailles. I still have not seen Versailles but I heard of most who have seen both that Schoenbrunn is nicer. |
|  | The Park It is a tremendous park stretching around the Palace and up a hill crowned by the "Gloriette". offering one of the finest views of Vienna. The park is in French style. of course. |
The Zoo Quite a big part of the Western park is the zoo. It was founded 250 years ago and is the oldest existing zoological garden in the world. And since a perfect renovation a couple of years ago it became one of the most modern zoos in the world. | | |

Scönbrunn with palace park and zoo could alone easily fill two days of sightseeing of Vienna - it easily beats Versailles . |
