Th beautiful port of Velas - Ilha de São Jorge

I think old Anselmo must have known a thing or two. Velas is indeed a beautiful port, especially when viewed from any of the surrounding hills.

Sao Jorge is unique. 65km long by just 8km wide, it leaps out of the sea, a ridge of volcano. Along the coast, fajas (spits of land) jut out into the sea providing stunning views.

Pros and Cons

Pros:picturesque, welcoming, great walking
Cons:the weather can be a bit chngeable
