New York New York, so good they named it twice, right?.....well yes!!! You've seen it on the movies and heard the stories; you've been to Chicago, L.A., Philly, Detroit and think you know what to expect. So you sit impatiently on Amtrak Express, you emerge from a long dark tunnel, then bang...out of nowhere the skyline hits you!!! Its everything you expected and probably more; the buildings are enormous, the streets are jam packed with people and taxis refusing to give an inch. You go one way, you go back, you know where you are going, then you don't...its the first rule of NY. The second is getting completely lost on the subway, looking at the map until you know it off by heart and watching suspicious looking individuals on the platform - the subway rattles on regardless.

You end up in Queens, you end up in Brooklyn, then you start becoming confident with the system... and end up the wrong side of Central Park!!! My advice check, and double check....and then check some more!!!
Finally you realise there's no place to stay because you didn't book ahead so improvisation is the key...
Penn Station becomes your bed for the night (or until a beefy policemen decides to move you on!!!). This could be anyone's story and New York is full of them.

Whatever NY is, it's not dull..........

• Pros:Busy, busy, busy....lots to do
• Cons:The subway...which way???
