Brno is the capital of Moravia, and also the Czech Republics second largest city. Not as picturesque as Cesky Krumlov or as cosmipolitan as Prague, Brno still offers the traveler plenty to do, without camera flashes, baseball caps and gift shops!!! The truth is most travelers pass up Brno as a conveniant travel hub, either to Prague or the opposite direction to Bratislava and Budapest.
Luckily I had time to burn, something I didn't have in Ceske Budejovice, and took a wander through the city (after I'd found dinner from a local supermarket, and left my chocolate behind!!!). Anyway, Brno has the Peter and Paul cathedral, Spilberk castle, Mendel Square (centre of Old Brno) to explore. There's also summer events to look out for, check the tourist information office for advice and tickets. A convenient day trip from Brno is Telc, a typical Czech town of World Heritage importance. It cannot be reached by train, buses run there from Brno |
