Berlin is like a history lesson come to life, now in its 14th year as part of the unified Germany. Parts of the infamous wall still stand, albeit now as a reminder of the past and of the unity of the city. Years of division are still noticable, the East remains sparse while the West is still key for shopping and architecture.
The difference make Berlin an intriguing city, its lively, its cultured and theirs the amazing nightlife (anyone been to the club 'floating' on the river???). Most people come here for the history - Checkpoint Charlie divided the Allied occupation from the Russian occupation, the museum nearby shows some of the successful and not so successful attempts to cross to the West. |
| | This part of the wall shows the opening of the 'divide' and the freedom of the people once again. |
| | November 9th 1989 will forever be a big part of Berlin's history. |

bijo69 Thu Aug 19, 2004 16:34 UTC Nice tips! The building on one of your pages is "Palast der Republik", one of the most prestigious GDR buildings. It once combined a congress center, parliament building and cafés. Now it's about to get demolished. | jono84 Sat Aug 14, 2004 00:31 UTC Will, great pages!
