    • In KSA, westerners live in walled-off compunds, completely shut off from Saudi society.
    Main reasons for this: security of westerners with past/current anti-westerner sentiment; and so they are able to offer as western an environment as possible, especially for women.

    Unique Qualities: Some compounds have Arabs living on them as. While some hospital compounds combine Westerner/Arab/Saudi nationals, and therefore rules can be slightly more strict, for example, women may be prohibited from wearing bikinis, shorts, singlets etc.
    Most employees find that their place of employment will include accommodation as part of their contract.
    According to Saudi law - unaccompanied women must live in a compound. Single/unaccompanied men may live in apartments etc.
