Auckland

by TomorrowsAngel - last update: Feb 10, 2006

auckland by night
In June 2002 I left Auckland, after living there for 18 months.
The rest of the NZ, especially the Mainland, has an image of Auckland as being a concrete jungle filled with yuppies who think milk grows in cartons and drive 4WDs because they can.
When I got there, I found that the Auckland is full of open green spaces and is kinda tropical and feels slightly exotic with all the different cultures mixed together.
Auckland is regularly voted one of the best lifestyle cities in the world. There are more boats in Auckland than people! And due to that fact, a lot of leisure activities are based around water. Whether it's aboard a grand prix racing yacht, or a ferry cruise to Great Barrier Island.
Non-aquatic activities include: Rainbow's End, a family-style amusement park, and the adrenaline-rush of the Auckland Bridge Climb.
Indulge in Auckland's unique shopping and nightlife. Sample cutting-edge Pacific Rim cuisine and try a tipple at trendy bars along Ponsonby Road, Parnell Road and High Street in the City.

Pros:"great lifestyle - sea, sunshine, shopping, food"
Cons:"peak hour traffic"
In A Nutshell:"a fusion of Pacific and NZ culture"

Auckland has changed so much since I lived there many many moons ago. It hardly seems like the same place.
