Name of Shop: Hera`a International market.
Hera was the first shopping mall built in Jeddah, it has been expanded in the last couple of years and is now 112,000m sq big. It has a mixture of popular international brands - such as Zara, Mango, Mothercare, Colours of Bennetton, Laura Ashley, Espirit. And some good local shops - Al Mustab, Danube. There is a children's play area with rides. Eating facilities - McDonalds, Fuddruckers, coffee shops (Cafe Du Lord and couple of others), Starbucks, KFC, Pizza Hut.
What To Buy: Parking for 1,500 cars but it can get congested around the main entrances at peak times. At the moment there is increased security, so only 1 entrance is open - so it gets pretty crowded at night.
What To Pay: Sales are on in June, August and December - you can pick up brand clothing for up to 75% off.

Name of Shop: Al Balad Souk
Al Balad is home to the main traditional souks in Jeddah – Gabel St leads east off the one way system and the treasures of the Gold Souk can be found off to the left. Gold is sold by weight (check the price daily in the newspaper for more bargaining power) and a small charge is added for workmanship. A must-see, even if not intending to buy.
What To Buy: There are quite a few shopping malls leading off the souk with pharmacies, homeware stores, shoe shops, clothing shops (ESPRIT, Sisley, U2 etc). You can buy watches, sunglasses, perfume, make up etc for less here, than at the bigger shopping centres such as Hera'a and Jeddah International.
What To Pay: bargain for the best price possible

Name of Shop: Hira`a International market.
My favourite shop in Jeddah has to be Diesel. The clothes are HEAPS cheaper here than in London and NZ. They seem to have a sale every couple of months or so - at the moment (August 03) everything is 70% off!!
What To Buy: They have cool jeans and off the shoulder tops.
What To Pay: Ranges from SR 20 (sale singlets) to SR 300 for (normal priced jeans)

Name of Shop: Danube Hyper Market
Danube has everything under one roof - groceries, electrical good, homeware, clothing - need I go on. The fruit and vege department has reasonable prices and the freshest produce. The deli has some great marinated white cheese (either bellpepper or chilli) and marinated garlic which we always buy for our barbies.
What To Buy: If you see something you really like best to buy as much as possible of it because it mightn't be there next time! This is always a good excuse when it comes to NZ Cadbury chocolate - lol.
What To Pay: Prices are fixed - just normal goricery prices.

Name of Shop: Heritage Touch
This homewear store imports all its products from India. All the furniture is wooden - rosewood, sandalwood, teak etc. They sell candles, candle stand thingies etc. There is a large collection of pashminas, cushion covers, table runners, tablecloths, placemats and napkins. They have this BIG stuffed lion's head rug which I really want to get a picture with before they sell it!
What To Buy: They have these cool cashmere pashminas with beaded borders, and even some covered in beaded patterns. They are expensive compared to the plain ones - but its easy to get a good discount. I also have a really cool teak wooden frame with inlaid brass fish on it.
What To Pay: Little wooden jwellery boxes start at SR 15 ($US 4). The big lions head rug is SR 20,000!!

Name of Shop: Al Tahlia Street
Talhia Street is the place to go if you need a bit of exercise, and have a spare couple of days. Ex-pats flock to buy their favourites. Here's an idea of what's there:- Oriental Carpet Bazaar Karen Millen (in Le Mall), Foschini (beside Debenhams, Nike (Sports City beside Foschini) Zara (two stand-alone stores, plus located in a couple of the malls), Mango (same as above), Jewellery Centre Diesel (a stand-alone store at about the halfway mark), Marks and Spencers (a block past Debenhams) Mothercare (beside Marks & Sparks) River Island (just past the roundabout, on the extension of Tahlia)
What To Buy: There are also numerous foodie stops:- Chocoline, Patchi, Le Gourmet, Pizza Express, KFC, Burger King, McDonalds
What To Pay: From SR10 upwards.

Name of Shop: MAC
Cosmetics and perfume are a lot cheaper here than in Western countries. But you kinda have to know exactly what you're shopping for, and do some product research first because (apart from womens-only floor of Kingdom in Riyadh) all the sales assistants are men. Some of them know what they are talking about productwise, but most don't.
What To Buy: MAC is about 25% cheaper here than in NZ, and the new collections hit the shelves a lot sooner.

Name of Shop: Jacques Dessange
This is my favourite beauty salon here in Jeddah. Most of the clients and people working there are Arab (with a few Philipinos). So its really cool to go get something done and you end up meeting interesting people and then have fun trying to communicate with a mixture of pigeon English, French and Arabic.
What To Buy: I've had waxing done here last year. And this year got foils done and a manicure. The massages are supposed to be good also.
What To Pay: from SR80 for a hair treatment, up to SR1500 for a whole day of VIP treatment
