The small Indonesian island of Bali has an almost mythical reputation as a tropical paradise. Unfortunately many of its visitors venture no further than their luxury beach resorts, but great beaches can be found throughout Indonesia. What makes Bali special is its fascinating culture, unique from any other in Indonesia and the world. The majority of Balinese practice an ancient form of Hinduism, steeped in mysticism and ritual, having almost no resemblance to Indian Hinduism. Balinese arts flourish and are highly refined, and traditional Balinese dance is some of the most beautiful in the world. Once you venture inland from the beaches, you will discover the real Bali, with its graceful terraced rice paddies and charming villages. Truly paradise!
