Day Trips: A little town in the mountains
  • Tip Rating:
  • The town of Copala

While we went on a tourist package and there were 3 other buses that day, I call it off the beaten path. Why ?

I know a few people that have been to Mazatlan sometimes more than once, and have never been to this town.

It is a small town of contrasts. Nice up kept houses, and shacks on the hill. Peolpe on donkeys and the occasional car on the street

Day Trips: Another bigger town in the mountains
  • Tip Rating:
  • This is the town of Concordia

Like my tip on Copala, these towns were featured on the same tour. We found many dresses (for my daughter) at a decent price here. It is starting to cater to tourist though. Not the real natural Mexican feeling.

Cultural/Historical: Iglesia de San Jose 1740-1775
  • Tip Rating:
  • This is an old curch in the town of Copala. Like much of Latin America there are numerous old churches. All of them seem unique and worth a visit.

    Day Trips: Rancho Las Moras
  • Tip Rating:
  • There are tours that are offered for a trip to a ranch in the mountains. The stops included an old tequila factory (it is being restored) and Rancho Las Moras. The ranch is an incredible sight. The whole place is decorated with colorful flora.

We had one bad experience on this trip.
We were told that the Racnh would accept credit cards. When we got the bill, they insisted on cash. My meal (ribs) arrived after everybody else finished their meal. I was not impressed with the food. For flavor it was served in a cup of barbque sauce.

Horses were available for riding (at a very expensive rate). The horses looked under fed.

I did not put this under a tourist trap for the following reasons:
-it was nice to go to the mountians and see the scenery
-part of the tour was the tequila factory (was not actually part of the tour but the guide knows the owner)
    - the guide was very knowledgeable and pointed out different types of plants (these are in my travelogue "mountain trip"
-the ranch was very interesting to see. There are cabins that could be rented

    Hopefully the tour gets better.

    Day Trips: Tequila Factory

  • Tequila Factory Courtyard

  • This picture was taken at a Tequila Factory. This site was not ready for tourists yet. Our guide knew the owner, so he took us there. Love the colors. This place will soon (if not already) be part of the Rancho Las Moras trip.

    UPDATE:
Visit Sinaloa's only tequila distillery—La Vinata! Before your tour, stop in the charming rural town of La Noria, where colonial-style architecture and leather goods are the scene. At the tequila distillery, taste samples as you learn how the popular liquor is produced.
